The county covers approximately 60,000 square kilometres in area extending from Gilgandra in the south, Lightning Ridge in the north , Warren in the west and Coolah in the east. The country varies from very rich fertile soils to some semi arid soils which means that the types of weeds encountered are many and varied.
There are approximately 7,600 rural holdings and 10,000 urban holdings in the county area. .There is approximately 11500 kms of road running through the county area which makes it very easy for weeds to spread on motor vehicles etc.
