LANDHOLDERS URGED TO INSPECT PROPERTIES FOR HUDSON PEAR

The general manager of Castlereagh Macquarie Weeds County
Council, Mr Ian Kelly, urges all landholders including mining
lessees, farmers and government and non- government agencies to
continue inspecting land under their control on regular basis for signs
of Hudson Pear infestation .

He said that excellent work had been undertaken by landholders in
controlling this noxious weed but it is very easy to miss small plants
which could grow and spread outside existing core and buffer where
the plant is already known to exist.

Mr Kelly said that once the pear has been detected then it should be
sprayed with appropriate chemical to prevent any further spread. If
landholders want any advice on detecting and controlling Hudson
Pear they should contact the County Council on phone number 02

MANAGEMENT PLAN PROVIDES STRATEGIC APPROACH TO CONTROLLING HUDSON PEAR

The General Manager of Castlereagh Macquarie Weeds County Council, Mr
Ian Kelly recently said that the development of a 5 year plan to control
Hudson Pear has been a key to the success in minimizing the spread of this
Noxious weed.

Mr Kelly said the plan has been developed by the Hudson Pear
Task Force which was created by the County Council. The taskforce consists of
representatives of a wide range of stakeholders including miners’ associations,
farmers and other government and non government agencies.

The approach in the plan is to focus control work primarily on scattered
infestations to prevent further spread from the key core areas.

Mr Kelly said in some areas the size of the core infestations had actually
been reduced and this could not have been achieved without the
cooperation of all concerned .

Mr Kelly concluded by saying that he was sure if this excellent cooperation and
teamwork continues, further inroads will be made to prevent the spread of this
weed. If people want information on how to control Hudson Pear they should
contact the County Coucil on (02) 6822 2377
